Northwest Alt-Blues Recess
August 9th through 12th, 2012
The Quarry: 12 miles south of Bellingham, WA
Northwest Alt-Blues Recess has always been a traveling event. We were even planning to take a break for NWBR in 2012. . . then we found The Bellingham Lookout Arts Quarry this in 2011. This past year at The Quarry was so spectacular, we just couldn't help ourselves. In 2012 NWBR will be happening at the same location as last year, just one week earlier, so to give ourselves a extra week to detox before we head to The Playa to do it all over again :-).
Northwest Alt-Blues Recess is the second of a new series of unique national blues fusion exchanges that focus on building dancer community and solidarity, love for nature and the outdoors, and unrestrained self-expression through fusion music and dancing. This year NWBR is renting an 86 acre rock quarry gone circus community south of Bellingham, WA. We have access to a hard-wood floored yurt and an aerialists warehouse with radiant-heated floors for late nights, flooded quarry pits for daytime swimming and cliff jumping, and thousands of acres of surrounding national forest for hiking, exploring, and dancing!
Registration price is a bit higher than last year (opening at $135 and peaking out at $185), but note that it includes ALL meals from Friday brunch until Monday lunch, including a 1am meal at all late nights. We will be sourcing from local, organic farms as much as possible and will be enlisting the help of all of YOU, the participants, in preparing and planning the meals. Last year NWBR sold out in 72 hours, so register ASAP!
To see the who's who are coming in for the event, we have posted the 2011 attendee list at Eventbrite (scroll to the bottom of the page for the attendee list). Lets all get excited!!!
NWBR 2011 Event Schedule (Last Year's)
Over 36 hours of music will be played by a talented group of DJs from all over the country.
Also, during the course of the weekend YOU the dancers will be voting on your favorite DJs, giving them a opportunity to possibly win hundreds of dollars in prize money.

You heard right, most everyone will be camping somewhere on the beautiful 85 acres we are renting for the event. Be sure to bring camping gear and bedding.
If you are flying in from afar, the easiest place to fly in would be Seattle, WA (SEA). The Quarry is a 90 minute drive north of Seattle. For help scoring a dancer carpool ride check out the oh-so-coveted rideshare board here.

T-shirts and other Blues Recess merchandise:
Hand-printed artwork by Willow Wind and Logan Woods-Darby of Elsewhere
Studios, Paonia, CO. The artwork will be posted here as soon as it is finalized.
There will be no pre-printed cothes sold this year, so be sure to bring to the event any of your own clothing that you want made
into NWBR unofficial attire, as Willow and Logan will be screen-printing
and personalizing clothing over the weekend for $10 per item.

Refunds: Yeah, so what is it with this whole no-refund policy going
around events these days? Or only a refund for credit, what? We don't want to penalize anyone for wanting to come to the recess, especially if it ends up that you
aren't able to join us (I mean that is punishment enough, right?). So
our refund policy is that we give them and in full, but only up until
three weeks before the event so that we have more than enough time to
find a replacement body. Any refund requests after July 25th
are not guaranteed and will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
Contact Justin Riley at bluesrecess@gmail.com regarding any potential refunds.
